چکیده

An isospin analysis of B → ππ decays yields sin 2α, where α is the usual CKM angle α ≡ arg[−V td V * tb /(V ud V * ub)] without hadronic uncertainty if isospin is a perfect symmetry. Yet isospin symmetry is broken not only by electroweak effects but also by the u and d quark mass difference — the latter drives π 0 − η, η ′ mixing and converts the isospin-perfect triangle relation between the B → ππ amplitudes to a quadrilateral. The error incurred in sin 2α through the neglect of the resulting isospin-violating effects can be significant, particularly if sin 2α is small.

We consider the modification of Newton's gravity law in Dolgov's higher spin models [1, 2] designed to compensate the cosmological constant. We find that the effective Planck mass is unacceptably large in these models. We also point out that the properties of gravitational waves are entirely different in these models as compared to general relativity.

We reconsider the problem of finding all local symmetries of a La-grangian. Our approach is completely Hamiltonian without any reference to the associated action. ar X iv : h ep - p h / 97 06 29 1 v 1 9 J un 1 99 7 Quark Mass and Phase Transition for Strange Matter ⋆

We have derived the popularly used mass parametrization formula for light quarks and modified the corresponding formula for strange quarks with the mass-densitydependent model. A simple expression for the critical density of phase transition of strange quark matter at zero temperature is thus found and its value is estimated to be over 6 times the normal nuclear density.
